We will guide you to four walking courses that trace the history and culture associated with each village in Yamakoshi. At the points along each course guided by maps, visitors can learn more about the charms of the region through audio guidance.

  • Bulls, Culture, and Mountain Life Route
  • History of Bulls in Mountain Life Route
  • The Hand-Dug Tunnel Route

*Closed in winter (November to March) due to snow.

Yamakoshi is attractive for its rich nature and varied topography. We will guide you to the best photo spots where you can enjoy the beautiful seasonal scenery of Yamakoshi while tracing the history of each village.

Pre-departure precautions (Please be sure to read)

【Rules for protecting the landscape of Yamakoshi】

  • The footpath between rice fields and carp ponds must be private property (*). Please DO NOT ENTER these areas as Nishikigoi may be infected with pathogens.
  • Colored Carp, Nishikigoi, in the ponds are precious works of art that require thorough management. Please DO NOT FEED them (*).
  • Please DO NOT DAMAGE natural plants and flowers and protect the environment.

*If the provisions of Article 130 of the Penal Code are violated, imprisonment for not more than three years or a fine of not more than 100,000 yen.

【Preparation before departure】

  • Charging points, water stations, and stores are limited. We recommend that you bring your own.
  • Some areas have poor reception. Audio guidescan be downloaded in advance.
  • Please dress and prepare according to the season, weather, and time of day.
